Huge Changes Upcoming

Last year my husband had WLS, having the Gastric Sleeve. He lost 130 pounds over the course of the year and feels amazing and looks good. It was not my choice for him as I knew that he probably wasn't ready for it, but he has done well. WLS has always been on my mind for years. However, most insurance companies will not pay for it without some underlying medical condition. Well I don't have any of those and haven't that we know of developed them. So WLS was just a thought in the back of my mind. Over time my mind set changed and I couldn't help but think that WLS was a quick way out. If you work hard at losing weight the weight will come off, right? Or so I thought! I tried and tried, different trainers, 5-6 days in the gym, better food, etc. Guess what I gained weight. Month after month I watched as the scale slowly moved upward. This is not the result that I wanted to see. Devestation! Then my husband had reached the part in his life that he had no choice but to make a change. In comes WLS. Still my mindset is I just need to work harder. My husband started with the new trainer that everyone sees after WLS and loved him. So I started seeing him as well. He has been a game changer for me. I have these new found muscles that I never had before and I feel so much better but guess what, I gained weight. I get that with new muscles comes weight gain but along with that should come some loss. Nope, none. The trainer has been really good about understanding how I felt about WLS but we continue to talk about it, which has probably been the best thing for me. So the decision has finally been made that I want to have WLS. Since September I have been seen the nutritionist and the psychologist, and yesterday was the surgeon. I have not gotten my hopes up that the insurance will pay for it but from the sounds of it I think it will be approved. I am starting to look forward to the WLS and the results that I should see from it. I see my Doctor from surgery clearance this week and next week is the Gastroenterologist. If my calculations are correct probably by July I will be having surgery and starting this new journey.

Day 157 of 365

I think I have fiqured out my body, but I am sure once I say that things will change. I have been doing more protein and less carbs and it seems to be working. Protein shakes at least twice a day, and then one maybe two meals depending on hungry I am. I also have to get on the scale at least 3 times per day. Once in the morning, once at lunch or when I get home in the evening, and once before I go to bed. This seems to help keep me on a consistent downward trend. I have not been counting calories or limiting my food intake. I eat all my protein first, then veggies, then if I have room for other things (which I usually dont) I will eat that. I don't eat until I'm stuffed, I only eat until I feel like I am getting full. I know at some point this may level off and I will have to find something else, but for right now, I am going with what works. Because it has certainly been a long time since I found anything that works.

How things change so quickly!

How things change so quickly. Well I guess it hasn't been that quickly but it sure seems like it.

The hubby wanted to switch gyms. He was not happy with 24 hour fitness and a friend mentioned UFC gym in concord, so we checked it out. Although it is more expensive we are so much more happier, especially me. I hadn't told him I was really struggling at the gym so it was nice to see that he was too. We are now members at UFC and love, love it. I wish there were more hours in the day to spend time there.
I am "Tom-boy" through and through, always have been, always will be. I like to hit things so UFC and I are a good fit. I love the Muay Thai classes, the boxing classes, the DUT (daily ultimate training) classes...so we spend a lot of time here. I even have a personal trainer that I love, although she scares me :)

Anyway, my husband was really heavy for awhile and he wasn't happy so he started on diets to go meals and doing double days at the gym. He has been losing weight but kept complaining cause I wasn't taking his diet serious and always wanted to eat out. And he was right, but I wasn't doing it to sabotage him, it was probably more of excuse for me. But then I no longer had a choice when my gall bladder was acting up and I had to have it out. I can't eat foods like I use to, I'm too afraid they will make me sick. Which means hardly any eating out, eating better foods at home, etc.

But my motivation to work harder came from the hubby, but he doesnt know that yet. He has lost some weight (guessing close to 40-50 pounds) and he is looking good. I'm a very competitive person and I just can't let him beat me at looking good, so I've been doing double days in gym as well. And since I am behind already it is motivation for me to work that much harder. I can't let him beat me :)
